Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series Returns This Weekend
‘Motorized mayhem’ predicted for first UMC night race
TOOELE VALLEY, UTAH (August 21, 2018) — The staff at Utah Motorsports Campus is gearing up for one of their most popular events of the year as the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series returns this Friday and Saturday, August 24-25.
This year’s event should be even more exciting than usual, as the off-road trucks and buggies will be racing at night, under the lights, for the first time at UMC.
“Everybody loves the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series,” said Willem Geyer, general manager of UMC. “This year, under the lights, the racing should be fantastic! We’re certainly looking forward to it, and we’re sure our great fans will enjoy the series more than ever.”
Nine different classes will compete on UMC’s Off Road Short Course, ranging from the small off-road karts and buggies for kids up to the fire-breathing, 900-hp two- and four-wheel-drive trucks in the Pro 2 and Pro 4 classes.
Gates will open at 1pm both days, with the kids’ classes kicking off the action at 4:30 pm. Opening ceremonies are scheduled for 7pm, with feature races following immediately thereafter. With the races at night, fans will be able to see the flames, sparks and red-hot brake discs that are normally not visible in the daytime, adding even more flavor to what is generally considered to be a “war on wheels.” The powerful trucks and buggies will get airborne a couple of times each lap, and vehicle-to-vehicle contact – plus the resultant damage – is the norm rather than the exception.
This weekend’s races will be a double-header, Rounds 7 and 8 of the series’ 12-round 2018 championship with practice, qualifying and racing each night, and the title fights are tightening up, adding even more urgency to the competition.
Fans will be able to stroll through the entire paddock, getting up close and personal with the vehicles, teams and drivers. Driver autograph sessions are scheduled for 4pm each day. In addition, the UMC Kart Center will be open for kart rentals and there will be numerous food trucks onsite for fans’ dining pleasure. The Rodizio Grill onsite will also be serving dinner both nights.
Tickets for the event are available online at www.UtahMotorsportsCampus.com or at the gate. Kids 12 and under will be admitted free of charge, and there are VIP and camping options available.
Utah Motorsports Campus is managing the facility formerly known as Miller Motorsports Park on behalf of Tooele County while the procedures to sell the facility take place.
Mitime Utah Investment, LLC, which operates Utah Motorsports Campus, has agreed with the Tooele County Board of Commissioners to an extension of the existing facility management agreement through December 31, 2018.
