Electric Vehicles (EVs) Prohibited at UMC Until Further Notice

At Utah Motorsports Campus, safety is always our top priority, for drivers, crew, staff, and the emergency teams who support our events.

After careful internal review and discussion around emergency response capabilities, we’ve determined that our current infrastructure is not yet equipped to safely support the on-track operation of electric vehicles (EVs).

Electric vehicles come with unique challenges during an incident. If a battery is damaged, it can release flammable gases and may be significantly more difficult to extinguish than a traditional vehicle fire.

Responding safely to these situations requires specialized firefighting equipment and training that we do not currently have in place.

There are also additional considerations around vehicle recovery and responder safety. In some cases, electronic door handles or access systems may malfunction following an impact or power loss, which can slow driver extraction during emergency response.

Until we’re able to fully implement the appropriate equipment, training, and protocols, allowing fully electric vehicles on track would introduce multiple risks. Effective immediately, fully electric vehicles will no longer be permitted to participate in on-track activities at Utah Motorsports Campus. This includes all events, races, testing, and private sessions. Hybrid vehicles will continue to be allowed.

This decision is based solely on current operational limitations and is not a reflection of our view on electric vehicle technology or its future in motorsports. We will continue to monitor industry advancements and reevaluate this policy with safety as a forethought.
