UMC – Behind the Gates with Jordan Priestley of JDP Motorsports

As we continue to take a look at ‘Behind the Gates,’ our next installment of this UMC exclusive segment allowed us to sit down with Jordan Priestley of JDP Motorsports and his wide array of business. Read about how he got his start, his winning ways, and his plans and vision for the future

UMC: How long have you been a garage tenant at the Utah Motorsports Campus and what does the Campus provides you to aid in the successful operation of your business?

JDP Motorsports: JPR has been at Utah Motorsports Campus since 2019 starting with a two-unit pull through. We decided to move our Headquarters which was established in 2008 from Sandy, Utah to UMC starting in January of 2023 where we expanded to 5,000 sq/ft in the 300 Building. Having our shop trackside at one of the United States’ premier racing facilities has allowed us to expand our business while supporting the Utah Motorsports Campus and the local racing community. It doesn’t get much better than being at the race track every day!

UMC: Your company has a large presence trackside. How did you get your start, how long have you been involved in motorsports and what are your future plans?

JDP Motorsports: I started my motorsports journey when I was eight years old karting and drag racing with my father at Rocky Mountain Raceway. I’ve worked in the automotive aftermarket and racing industry for most of my career in various capacities before starting JPR in 2008 under the JDP Motorsports brand with a focus on late-model GM performance.

We were fortunate to be a part of the winning ST1 Team at the NASA National Championship at UMC in 2010 with George Smith in his C5 Corvette. In 2013 the NASA National Championships came back to UMC, and we were once again part of the ST1 Championship with George Smith, and we also won the ST2/TT2 Championship with JR Smith in his C5 Corvette. We won the 2019 NASA Utah TT1 Championship in our 2019 C7 Corvette Grandsport Bernice before campaigning our Tesla Model 3 Performance. The focus on developing the EV platforms netted Revolting Performance NASA Utah TTEV Championships in 2021, 2022 and 2023 along with a NASA Nationals second-place finish in 2022 at Laguna Seca. This year we are focusing on the NASA National Championships here at UMC where we hope to come away with multiple team championships.

In 2014 we started competing in the USCA (Ultimate Street Car Series) in their inaugural season. We were able to win regular season events in various development vehicles including our 5th Gen Camaro Frankey, our 6th Gen Camaro Evilynn, and our C7 Grandsport Corvette Bernice. We finished third overall at OUSCI (Optima Ultimate Street Car Invitational) in 2019. We regrouped in 2020 with Covid and we added Revolting Performance where we focused on EV platforms from Tesla. We campaigned our new development vehicle in the series, a 2021 Tesla Model 3 Performance Matilda, and finished eighth overall in 2021, fifth overall in 2022 and second overall in 2023 at OUSCI.

We added the NMCA West Series to our schedule in 2015 running at Autoclub Speedway in Southern California. We won the 2016 Modern Muscle Class and Overall Grand Championship in our 2016 Camaro SS Evilynn. Then we won the 2018 and 2019 Sports Car Class and Grand Championships in our 2017 C7 Corvette Grandsport. We’ve also competed in SCCA Pro Solo bringing home wins and podium finishes at National events.

We decided to take our race program a step further in 2024 launching JP Racecraft with a focus on Trackside Services including vehicle storage, driver development and coaching, track support, race program consultation, tire services, and dyno services. We’ve partnered with NASA Utah to be the Official Dyno, and we will provide Dyno Services for NASA Nationals in 2024 at UMC. We plan on hosting track days at UMC with a strong focus on driver development and vehicle setup this year and beyond.

UMC: Why did you choose UMC as your home base?

JDP Motorsports: I was born in Utah and after growing up in Southern California my wife and I decided to move back to Utah in 2008 for the outdoor lifestyle, beautiful natural scenery, and slower pace. I was first introduced to UMC during my time at Pfadt Race Engineering, and I immediately fell in love with the facility. To have a world-class motorsports facility in Utah is incredible, and we are very fortunate. We have had a presence here for many years before we decided to take the next step and get our own trackside shop space. Once we had a presence here on Campus, we decided this was where we wanted to operate our businesses full time and the rest is history!

UMC: For people who do not know about JDP Motorsports, can you tell us what you do and where your focus is?
