UMC – Behind the Gates with TrackTime LLC’s Josh Carrion

As we continue to take a look at ‘Behind the Gates’, our next installment allowed us to sit down with TrackTime LLC’s Josh Carrion. Focused on bringing the on-track experience to racers and non-racers alike, here is what Josh had to say.

UMC: How long have you been a garage tenant at the Utah Motorsports Campus and what does the Campus provide you to aid in the successful operation of your business?

TrackTime LLC: We began leasing space in February, starting with one pull-through bay on the front row of the tenant garages, right in the paddock. We then expanded to a double bay a couple of rows back to have enough space to store our race cars. At TrackTime, anyone with a passion for racing can book time, come to the track and drive our vehicles with a racing instructor for an exciting on-track experience. Utah’s Motorsports Campus is a world-class facility with a racetrack that features many challenging corners, and a layout that is fun to race. UMC hosts multiple events every year, open to the public to register, and bring their own vehicle to get on track, but there are also leased tenant track days that allow us to bring our clients to the track as well.  The track staff is great to work with and the facility is always clean and well-maintained.

UMC: Your company has a large presence trackside. How did you get your start, how long have you been involved in motorsports and what are your future plans?

TrackTime LLC: I’m Josh, the owner of TrackTime. I’ve ridden motorcycles for ten years and started racing sport bikes in 2020 at UMC through the Utah Sport Bike Association.  This year featured fewer motorcycle racing events, so in order to get more time on the track, I decided to race cars as well. After attending a few Amateur Track Days and AutoCross events, I felt that more people should experience the incredible feeling of being behind the wheel of a race car. I grew up playing Gran Turismo on PlayStation and learned a lot about race lines and control. In high school, my dad and I built high-performance engines, and with my profit, I was able to build some amazing cars.  I always wanted to race them on a track but never had the opportunity, so today it is living out my dream to be on track and I truly enjoy sharing that experience with others.

UMC: Why did you choose UMC as your home base?

TrackTime LLC: As I mentioned earlier, UMC is a world-class facility that was built in the heyday of Larry H Miller’s career. It was his playground, and he had a passion for racing, so naturally all of the amenities at the facility are built to give people a top-notch experience. The track layout was designed by an amazing engineer and has ideal turns with elevation changes that make it very exciting and fun to drive.

UMC: For people who do not know about Track Time, can you tell us what you do and where your focus is?

TrackTime LLC: At TrackTime, we love to give an exciting experience to people who have always wanted to drive a race car on track.  So many people have dreamt of being behind the wheel of a race car and have never had the opportunity. We want to bring this experience to anyone who has a passion for racing.  We provide personal instruction one-on-one, and we can also host an afternoon event for multiple people as well.

Another facet of the business is drifting. We have a drift car to provide drift racing instruction and ride-alongs. I believe drifting is an important component of racing, because if you lose control while on the track, if you understand how to drift your vehicle, you can always regain control.  We also change tires for our own car and others at local drift events.

UMC: Can you tell us a little about your customer base and your programs?

TrackTime LLC: Our customer base is any race enthusiast who would like to learn how to race.  If you know anyone who says I have always wanted to do that, they would be an ideal referral.  Our programs start at $499 for one person and go up to $4999 for personal or corporate parties.

UMC: Anything else you want to share with our readers?

TrackTime LLC: So many people that we speak with have no idea that the track is open and operational, and so close, being 30 minutes from Salt Lake City. I would encourage anyone to visit the Utah Motorsports Campus website and check out the events they have going on. There are generally food trucks and lots of people that show up, and some of the most incredible cars you will ever see.  I believe more people need to know that there is so much going on at the track, it truly is a one-of-a-kind facility.

UMC: Thank you for taking the time to sit down with UMC and all of this information.

TrackTime LLC: It’s been my pleasure. Now let’s go race!
